Episode 5

After all who else, if not me?

From age four, she was sexually abused by her father—and soon trafficked to relatives, friends, and strangers for profit. By five, her grandmother became her “trainer,” teaching her to seduce men in exchange for survival. Chained in a nightclub, filmed for abuse material, and repeatedly impregnated and forced into abortions, she endured what would later be called one of New Zealand’s most severe cases of child sexual abuse. Her mother walked away. Her brother joined the torment. She attempted suicide three times before turning 16—the day she finally walked free. For decades, she carried the wounds in silence, repeating cycles of unsafe relationships, convinced she was unworthy of love. Healing came slowly—through journaling, therapy, meditation, and, at 60, writing her memoir. In telling her truth, she lost her family but reclaimed herself. Her story isn’t just about survival—it’s about the unbreakable power of the mind, and the fierce, necessary act of choosing yourself when no one else will. After all, who else, if not me?
