Meet Our Podcast Narrators - Series Seven

“Under Our Roof”

In the Under Our Roof series, NLM explores one of the most confronting and widely misunderstood realities of child sexual abuse: the harm is often caused not by strangers, but by trusted individuals within a child’s everyday world. These are people welcomed into our homes; individuals who gain both our trust and our children’s, and with it, access.

The recent Australian Child Maltreatment Study found that while nearly 10% of Australians experienced incestuous abuse by a parent, caregiver, or sibling before the age of 18, almost 20% were sexually abused by other known adults or adolescents.

Through survivor voices and thoughtful storytelling, this podcast series examines how abuse remains hidden in plain sight, how trust is manipulated, and how silence is maintained. By bringing these stories into the open, Under Our Roof aims to deepen understanding, challenge assumptions, and help build a culture where children are safer and survivors are heard. Dr Jan Ewing PhD, MA, BSc(Hons),FAPS, FASSBI, FISSTD.
