Episode 9

“A Mother's Tale”

At 15, her daughter revealed she’d been sexually assaulted by a beloved uncle—only to be met with denial, blame, and demands to apologize for “ruining his life.” Her father sided with his family; her grandfather hurled abuse. Shattered, the girl stopped eating, her body failing until she was hospitalized with anorexia. Though she survived, she withdrew from school and friends, later numbing her pain with drugs. Now an adult, she carries deep sorrow beneath her laughter. Her mother’s story lays bare a harsh truth: families often protect abusers, not children—and one betrayal can fracture a life forever. “She could have been such a different thing,” her mother says. But the world moved on as if nothing broke.
