From age three to eleven, she was raped over 200 times by her grandfather a respected Navy man and trusted family figure while the world around her stayed silent. She dissociated to survive, feared pregnancy at seven, and endured years of shame, self-harm, and bulimia. When she finally told her mother at 14, the response was chilling: relief it wasn’t her husband, then a demand for secrecy to protect the family’s image. No one believed her enough to act until she confronted her abuser at 21, recorded every word, and reclaimed her voice. Decades later, at 42, she told her father—the man who’d always hated pedophiles and was finally met with love, not denial. But her mother and aunts still shield her grandmother, the enabler, leaving her unseen. Now 48, she shares her truth with one urgent message: Only the truth sets you free. And if we don’t teach our children that even “trusted” adults can harm them, we leave them defenseless against the predator who lives at home.
